Starting our Business

We started our business, Yogasmiths back in 2016 when Paul took redundancy from his civil service job in Learning and Development. This was a dive into the unknown of setting up, establishing and running our own business. We always wanted to work together and this was a step towards realising this dream. You can read a short bio for us both here https://pauls93.sg-host.com/about/

We initially started out teaching private one to one yoga clients and then expanded into public group classes in April 2017. We were overwhelmed that at our first class we had to turn away 3 people as the class was full. The classes proved popular and consequently we increased the number of classes we offered.

Where we are now….

As of 2020 we are teaching 7 weekly classes including Gentle Years Yoga chair based yoga, running yoga retreats twice a year, running workshops, pop-up yoga events outdoors and Yoga & Sunday Brunch events.

Our intention

Our intention has always been to create varied and interesting yoga classes that are true yoga classes in every sense of the word. As a result we work hard to create yoga sessions that cover all of the 8 limbs of yoga. We wanted to provide classes in our local area that are accessible to all. Therefore we fully embrace the British Wheel of Yoga’s staged approach to teaching yoga postures / asana. This allows us to have complete beginners in the class as well as retired yoga teachers. Everyone practicing to the correct level for them. A yoga class where you can strengthen your body, free your mind and relax.

We have been consistently included in the top 3 yoga classes in Wirral since we started our business in 2016 on the website Three Best Rated. We are the only room temperature yoga class listed in the top 3 in Wirral. You can find 3 Best Rated here https://threebestrated.co.uk/yoga-classes-in-wirral

Thank you!

We are so very grateful for all the support of our lovely yoga students who attend our events and weekly classes. Without you there would be no Yogasmiths! It is truly a joy to be able to impart the teachings of yoga and to spread the benefits of this wonderful practice.

Yogasmiths Christmas Party, Charity Raffle & Collection for Wirral’s Homeless CIC

Hi Everyone! We would like to remind everyone that it is less than a week until our Yogasmiths Christmas Party & Charity Raffle in aid of Wirral’s Homeless Community Interest Company.

Our party will be held at Tanskey’s on South Parade (on the prom) in West Kirby on Thursday 12th December starting at 7:30pm. It is free to attend and you do not need a ticket. There will be the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets (£1 per ticket) on the night and the raffle will be drawn at 9pm. This will be a lovely evening to escape from the all the craziness of the General Election TV coverage and an opportunity to socialise, support a worthy local charitable organisation and to have a dance!

This is the 3rd year on the run that we have supported this local Community Interest Company who tirelessly work all year round to support our local homeless and other vulnerable members of society. We firmly believe that a society should be judged on how it treats its most vulnerable members and initiatives likes this one should be highly valued by all Wirral’s residents.

(Check out the blog from the 2017 Yogasmiths Christmas Party here https://pauls93.sg-host.com/2018/01/13/yogasmiths-christmas-charity-raffle-donation-to-wirrals-homeless-cic/ )

In Yoga the Bhagavad Gita details the 4 paths of yoga, one of which is Karma Yoga. This is the Yoga of selfless action and charitable donations and charitable work are examples of this path of yoga.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our class members for their support, we have a huge number of wonderful prizes for this raffle, the best so far since we started in running them in 2017. Many prizes have been donated by class members and also from local businesses. Check out the list of prizes at the end of this blog and also links to the local businesses that kindly donated prizes.

Wirral’s Homeless Community Interest Company are based in Birkenhead feeding and supporting local homeless people and other vulnerable members of society. They provide fresh, healthy home-cooked meals to the homeless community in Birkenhead each night, along with packed lunches and snacks at the weekend. They also provide tents, sleeping bags, toiletries, underwear, socks, hats, scarves and gloves. They are often looking for volunteers to cook food; volunteer drivers to pick up meals from addresses on the Wirral and deliver to Birkenhead in the evening; as well as donations of the above items along with microwavable plastic tubs for food.

You can follow Wirral’s Homeless CIC and all the great work they do on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Wirralshomeless/ and on their Twitter feed at https://twitter.com/wirralshomeless

Guest blog: Susan Maire – Sports Massage and Soft Tissue Therapist

Susan Maire is a regular Thursday Yoga class member. We both have regular sports massage with her and enjoy the benefits of doing so. We firmly believe that a combination of Yoga and regular massage helps to keep you in great condition! Susan currently has a great offer on at the moment that new clients can take advantage of, 3 massages for the price of 2, this works out at 3 massages for £60. We will hand you over to Susan from Susan Maire Sports Massage to talk about massage…..

Susan Maire Sports Massage

What is Sports Massage?

  • Massage is one of the earliest forms of physical therapy and was used over 3000 years ago in China, India and Greece.
  • It involves manipulating soft tissue.
  • Soft tissue is connective tissue that has not hardened into bone and cartilage eg muscles, skin and fascia.
  • It’s designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma.
  • A sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.

Q: Is it just for athletes?

A: Not at all! Soft tissue massage can help almost anyone who is experiencing aches and pains, whether they are caused by sport, work or from sitting too much in a car or at a computer.

Q: Does it hurt?

A: Massage of tight “knotty“ muscles can be uncomfortable as they are released, however as a therapist I believe it’s important to communicate with clients throughout the treatment to ensure that it isn’t too painful.

I don’t believe it’s a case of no pain no gain!

Q: How long does it take to work?

A: This depends on lots of factors. I’d expect most clients to see some benefit in the day or two after a treatment. However, if an injury has been present for some time it’s likely to take more than one session to correct it. I will usually suggest some stretches to do between sessions too.

Q: Do I need to be injured to benefit?

A: No definitely not! As with most things prevention is usually better than cure and picking up and correcting tight areas may prevent an injury.

About Me

  • I’m based in West Kirby and have a clinic room at home. I’m a keen triathlete and understand the love of training and racing.
  • I love what I do as I get to see real improvements in clients’ pain and movement.
  • I have a Level 3 VCTC qualification and full insurance.
  • Sessions cost £30 per hour and I offer reductions for regular clients booking blocks of sessions.

West Kirby Light Opera Society – Stars in their Eyes night!

Tia and Ben, two of our regular yoga students at our weekly Hoylake Yoga class kindly invited us to attend the West Kirby Light Opera Society Stars in their Eyes night.

It was held in Westbourne Hall and was a fantastic night out. Steve and I took my mum to see it and we all had a great time.

All of the performers were wonderful. There was Johnny Cash, Kate Bush, The Supremes, Michael Buble, Dean Martin, K D Lang, George Michael, Roy Orbison, Shirley Bassey, Taylor Swift, Bewitched, Tina Turner, Cindy Lauper, Nancy Sinatra, Grace Jones and more! The Winner was the very fierce Grace Jones. She had everyone on the edge of their seats wondering if they were going to be picked on from a very in character temperamental Grace Jones!

We were overwhelmed by Tia who performed as Shirley Bassey, Kate Bush and Diana Ross and the Supremes. Our personal favourite was her turn as Kate Bush performing Wuthering Heights complete with the famous dance!

The Yoga has got to help with a dance routine like this;

Ben too was in fine voice as the man in black Johnny Cash performing Ring of Fire, complete with a Tijuana Brass man in the background!

Tia is heavily involved in putting the night together and is also a key member of the West Kirby Light Opera society. The night was a great success and we will be sure to return next year!
